HCE received a lot of high-quality submissions for The Green Issue – sadly, too many to fit inside the magazine! So we offered some writers and artists who’d sent in work the chance to be published here on the website. Keep an eye on our social media for more great work like this, now that The Green Issue print magazine has been released! (For more information or to purchase your copy, visit our shop.)

Storm Mann
A State of Dormancy

Grow with me, I told you
And our roots intertwined.
Does this petal come from your garden
Or mine?
It doesn’t matter anymore,
My soil has always longed to meet you.

Sleep beside me.
Tonight we will become dormant,
Together we will break
Our soil will seep
Our roots may rot
Our growth could stop completely.

But sleep beside me,
For in the morning
I will still look at you,
Wilting, withering,
And see home.
