Realignment
Adam Neal
I float face first into obscurity,
Unknowing where I’m supposed to be.
Holding conversations with one hand,
Told him to get the round in.
Told me to get around it.
Through it.
Internal incandescence,
Iterations of a bygone era.
Gestures in my mind,
Hinging on fixations.
I never was good at DIY.
Melancholy laid dormant,
Malevolence acted as Foreman.
Mining through coarse mountains,
At first mole-hills, manifested into much more.
Cacophonous conversations,
Connotations condoned crassness.
Impressionable, it was inevitable, an imprint left.
Cyclical, processing proceedings places me in purgatory.
Now seems habitual.
As discussing things dictates the direction of discretion.
“Are you okay?” sounds like a symphony of sympathy.
My work is inspired and informed by my surroundings. Having spent my formative years living in the residential area of Northfield, Birmingham, I now create work about my immediate environment and relationship. Primarily operating as a visual artist who produces work about identity, loss, and nostalgia I use the written word and poetry in an attempt to elucidate my practice.
